Food and Drink

Children are free to stop and have ‘snack’ when they feel hungry or thirsty. They do not have to eat something if they are not hungry but they are encouraged to. This time is used to encourage good manners, hygiene and independence but it is also a social time to sit and chat with friends and an adult. The government provides fruit and milk for all Nursery age children and the centre supplies fruit and milk for all pre-school children. Water is also freely available all day.

You may decide you want your child to stay for lunch. We eat together in the centre. You can choose to provide your own packed lunch or choose from the menu we provide. Healthy hot or cold dinners are made in the school kitchen and bought down to us in the Early Years. As we encourage healthy eating at school, if you choose to give your child a packed lunch please make sure it is healthy too. Please don’t include sweets and chocolate in it. As some children have nut allergies we are a nut free school. We do not allow nuts or nut products in lunch boxes.

We use lunch time as a chance to develop social skills and independence. During lunch children lay the table, sit together chatting with their friends and then clear away and wash up. If your child is staying for lunch please sign the sheet at the beginning of the session. Occasionally we will have other food, for example parties or picnics. Please make sure we know of any allergies when completing the admissions form. Fees will be applied when having a school lunch.
